Thickness measurement in strip systems

In strip systems such as longitudinal and cut-to-length slitting shears, the advantages of C-frame and O-frame shaped thicknessCONTROL 820x und 920x measurement systems become particularly clear. The high lateral resolution of discrete laser lines enables both thickness measurements and width detection. Also in grinding and milling lines, these systems offer high precision measurements on highly polished surfaces.

BBV - Longitudinal slitting shears

Installation situation:
The O-frame is integrated in longitudinal slitting shears before the slitting unit.
Material:
- Width: max. 1600mm
- Thickness: 1mm up to 12mm
- Material temperature: < 35°C
Measurement:
The system measures the cross-section over the total width, recognising the edge position and adapting the traversing position according to movements of the floating strip and changing widths.
The MTS 8201.LLT is equipped with laser triangulation scanners which means measurements are unaffected by the surface properties of the target material. Scaling or mirror effects of the metal surface are therefore absorbed. Furthermore, compared to point sensors, the system offers higher accuracy and a larger mouth width. The O-frame shaped mechanical system provides a temperature-compensated frame that compensates for any thermal changes of the measurement frame using additional sensor technology. The measurement line is arranged vertically to the material flow, enabling the system to cope with any lateral strip tilting.

Böhler Uddeholm - Grinding line

Installation situation:
The C-frame is behind the grinding unit.
Material:
- Width: 40mm up to 650mm
- Thickness: 0.5mm to 5.5mm
- Material temperature: < 50°C
Measurement:
The system measures the centre thickness over the total length of the product. An interface transmits the measurement data to the grinding machine in order to control material removal.
Le MTS 8202.LLT fonctionne à base de scanners à triangulation laser et garantit ainsi une indépendance de la mesure par rapport à la nature de la surface du matériau à mesurer. Les calaminages ou effets de réflexion de la surface métallique sont ainsi absorbés. Le système offre en outre une précision supérieure à celle obtenue à l'aide de capteurs par points ainsi qu’une plus grande ouverture d’entrée. La mécanique à cadre en C du système est dotée d'un système de calibrage en ligne automatisé permettant d'éviter tout effet perturbateur d’origine thermique. Du fait de la disposition transversale de la ligne de mesure par rapport au flux de matériau, le système prend en compte le défaut d’alignement angulaire de la bande.
